Concrete Stage

I am living in a world engulfed in melodies of hope and rage,
The hooker's heels, the business man's strut and the drunk's sway keep the city's beat.
And I let the music fill my soul, as I stand on my concrete stage.

The wind moans through the alley and rattles the prisoner's cage.
Taxis and buses sound their horns, as a siren wails its piercing solo.
I am living in a world engulfed in melodies of hope and rage.

The beggar's refrain, "Will work for food," as passersby try to disengage.
Then the vendor's chorus echoing, "Get your roasted nuts here! Everyone has to eat."
And I let the music fill my soul, as I stand on my concrete stage.

Scared of violence, a boy cries at night, finally acting his age.
The hum of the street lamps and the deep rumble of the subway drum through the concrete.
I am living in a world engulfed in melodies of hope and rage.

A girl sells her innocence, because no one lives on minimum wage.
Children play and shriek on the sidewalk, unaware of stangers with more "trick" than "treat."
And I let the music fill my soul, as I stand on my concrete stage.

The city is a symphony, filled with life's unbraidled rampage.
But pigeons, the rats of the sky, coo a solemn, sorrowful ballad at my feet.
I am living in a world engulfed in melodies of hope and rage.
And I let the music fill my soul, as I stand on my concrete stage.
